If so, Athwal Resourcing has been appointed on an exclusive basis by an ambitious family run SME business who is seeking a Financial Controller to ensure the company meets its critical strategic and operational objectives over the coming years for its UK operation and distribution business.
The Financial Controller reports directly to the Managing Director, and the role is hands-on primarily controlling, supporting and managing all aspects of the Finance function, delivering against critical objectives and ensuring a coordinated approach in line with the Company future strategy. The role requires not only the usual Financial Controller duties of managing the day to day finance team and take ownership of the provision, development and delivery of management accounting information, but there are some operational transformational projects to install operational excellence. This role will challenge the status quo, seeking out the best way forward and help make the necessary changes to ensure best practice within the business.
Financial Control and Reporting. Maintaining robust and timely financial reporting to the Board, completing monthly accounts on time, understanding variances and ensuring all day to day accounting is completed accurately;
The preparation of management reports for the operational management team providing analytical direction and actions to achieve the targeted results;
Manage the annual budget and quarterly forecasting with the Budget holders and provide support during the process;
Monitor the business’ cash flow and working capital requirements;
Lead, manage and support the small team of finance and support staff;
Streamline the current Processes and Procedures and recommend improvements to achieve adequate internal control and line with GDPR;
Operational Excellence in developing and driving the management reporting and designing a dashboard of KPI reports on production, purchasing, transport, sales and gross profit margins by customers in line with strategic targets;
Business Partner the management team on operational issues and take an active role local operational meetings on business and financial matters; to identify, evaluate and propose productivity and performance improvements for the business;
Be part of the team to implement a fully integrated management information system to improve efficiency;
Manage and maintain external stakeholder relationships with auditors, banks and tax authorities ensuring timely submissions of external reporting;
Initiatives and Ad hoc projects – working with the Managing Director on strategic and commercial initiatives across the company.
The background and key attributes
Be a qualified accountant either ACMA/ACCA/ACA;
At least 5 years’ accounting hands-on experience within an SME, preferable within a multi-sited environment;
Experience of leading and developing teams;
Have a demonstrable background in developing and managing initiatives focusing on process improvements and improved efficiencies and have the ability to drive change across functional boundaries;
Strong drive to ensure there is continuous improvement and getting things done;
Held either a Number 1 or Number 2 finance position;
Be IT literate (Excel, Powerpoint, Word) with financial modelling, analysis and evaluation skills and worked extensively with ERP systems (preferably Nav Dynamics);
Confident with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organisation and with third parties.
This critical position requires a commitment and the willingness to get the desired results. The individual needs to be resilient in their actions and take ownership with the want to continuously learn for themselves and the finance team.
