If so, Athwal Resourcing is recruiting for a Finance Controller on an exclusive basis for a successful design and manufacturing business that requires a hands-on Finance Controller to head the Finance function based in Wednesbury.

The firm is well-established company with a turnover £20m+ it has had steady growth year on year and continues to be a leader in the design and manufacture of its products.

The Finance Controller will play a pivotal role in supporting the Managing Director on the financial management of the business whilst helping control the day-to-day finances and ensuring the company achieves its key strategic objectives over the coming years.

This career progressive Finance Controller position is ideally suited to an ACMA, ACCA ACA who has worked either in practice and/or industry and wants to work with a growing established manufacturing business that is world-class and dominates the market share in its field. The role requires commitment and willingness to get the desired results. It is a hands-on role primarily controlling, supporting, and managing all aspects of the Finance function, delivering against key objectives and ensuring a coordinated approach in line with the Company’s strategy. As a member of the company’s senior management team, you will play a key role in formulating and developing the long-term strategic plan.

As Finance Controller you will undertake:

• Financial Control and Reporting This includes full responsibility for the control and administration of all finance functions and maintaining robust and timely financial reporting, completing monthly accounts, understanding variances and ensuring all day-to-day accounting is completed accurately with the timely preparation of management reports for the Managing Director and Board;
• Strategic Direction As a member of the company’s senior management team, you play a key role in formulating and developing the long-term strategic plan. Providing financial analysis to support strategic and commercial initiatives across the company;
• Annual Budgeting and Forecasting Coordinate and direct the preparation of the annual budget and monthly forecasts. Monitor actual performance against the strategic plan and other targets and give timely advice and explanation of any variances to budget or forecast, enabling corrective action to be taken at the earliest opportunity. Review all financial plans and budgets regularly to look for cost reduction opportunities;
• Working Capital & Cash Management Ensure cash is managed, and working capital is monitored together with forecasting future cash flows;
• Staff Management Lead and motivate the finance department and ensure the highest standards of financial control across the business;
• Streamline the Processes and Procedures Take an active role in local operational, commercial and financial matters; to identify, evaluate and propose productivity and performance improvements for the business and recommend improvements to achieve effective internal control;
• Operational Excellence in developing and driving the management reporting and in designing a dashboard of KPI reports in line with operational targets and business partners the operational team;
• Managing External Relationships Ensure compliance with Statutory and Group regulations; collaborate with auditors to ensure all external reporting and submissions to external bodies are submitted on time and in line with statutory regulations and to company timescales.

The successful candidate will be:

• Fully qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA);
• Proven working experience as a financial controller in a Number 1 or Number 2 finance position, with five years overall combined accounting and finance experience;
• Ideally worked in the manufacturing sector;
• Ideally an operationally focused and strategic thinker with hands-on accounting experience;
• A strong team player with proven leadership qualities, capable of motivating, controlling and developing staff;
• A demonstrable record of achievement in the implementation and maintenance of financial controls and in developing and managing initiatives focusing on process;
• Experience in compliance and governance;
• Strong drive to ensure there is continuous improvement;
• Working alongside a highly motivated senior management team, you must be able to articulate and evidence how initiatives benefit the business;
• Strong analytically with advanced Excel skills for financial modelling, analysis and evaluation skills to be able to understand the numbers and articulate the issues they relate to;
• Confident with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate both written and verbally and influence at all levels within the organisation and with external advisors.
